Ly Son is an island district of Quang Ngai province, located about 15 nautical miles from the mainland, likened to a green pearl in the East Sea. With an area of only about 10 km², this island, although small, possesses special destinations that cannot be found anywhere else.

Millions of years ago, Ly Son was originally an underwater volcano. After many violent eruptions, lava flows gradually accumulated to create the shape of the island as it is today.
Currently, the island still has traces of 10 large and small craters, including 3 craters located on the seabed, 5 craters on the Big Island and 1 crater on the Small Island.
Among them, the two most famous craters, attracting many tourists and geological researchers, are Thoi Loi and Gieng Tien craters.
The first is Thoi Loi crater – This is the largest volcano on the island, with a peak height of nearly 170m, a base diameter of 1.4km, and a mouth diameter of about 0.35km. Currently, this crater has been used to build a freshwater reservoir, providing an important water source for residents on the island. The second is Gieng Tien crater – One of the remaining national monuments on the island, with a surreal natural landscape. This crater is about 86m high, with fertile red soil inside, creating conditions for lush green vegetation to grow.
